We collect information you give us directly and information generated while you use the platform:
- Account information: name, email address, and a securely stored password hash managed by our authentication provider.
- Learning data: lessons completed, assessments and quiz attempts, flashcards reviewed, bookmarks, study sessions, badges, and progress metrics.
- Profile data: education level, university, major, learning goals, and any bio you add.
- Technical data: device and browser information, approximate location, and usage analytics collected through Google Analytics.
- Communications: support tickets and contact messages you send us.
2. How We Use Information
We use your information to operate and improve the service, including to:
- Create and manage your account, verify your email, and keep you signed in.
- Track your progress, score your assessments, and personalize recommendations.
- Send transactional emails such as verification links, password resets, and support replies.
- Measure how the platform is used so we can improve lessons, quizzes, and performance.
- Prevent abuse, enforce our Terms, and keep the community safe.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with trusted service providers who help us operate, and only as needed:
- Infrastructure: Firebase (authentication and Firestore database) and Cloudflare R2 (content and media storage).
- Email delivery: SendByte, which delivers transactional emails on our behalf.
- Analytics: Google Analytics, which processes aggregated usage data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
- AI generation: when you generate a practice assessment or flashcard set, the relevant lesson text is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI or DeepSeek) solely to create the practice content; it isn't used to train their models or sold onward.
- Legal compliance: where required by law, a court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
If you choose to link a parent or guardian account, the relevant learning data of the linked child account is visible to that parent or guardian.
4. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Export your data in a portable format.
You can update most profile and learning data directly in your settings, or email us at legal@avenpathlearn.com to exercise any of these rights. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.
5. Data Retention & Security
We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your profile and personal learning records; content you generated may be retained briefly for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.
We protect data in transit with TLS encryption, store passwords only as hashes, restrict access to production data to authorized staff, and keep client-facing database rules locked down to each user's own data.
